Six Consecutive MX2 Championships as Honda Claims Five Championship Podiums Across Four Classes!

The 2026 Australian Motocross Championship marked the end of another remarkable season for Honda Racing Australia. While it followed two consecutive years of sweeping every championship class, the team once again proved its depth and competitiveness, securing the MX2 Championship and five championship podium finishes across four classes.

Honda riders claimed 14 of the 16 MX2 race wins, eight of the 16 MX3 race victories, and four MX1 race wins, underlining the competitiveness of the CRF250RWE and CRF450RWE throughout the season.

For Team Director Yarrive Konsky, the results reinforce that the foundation remains strong, while highlighting areas the team will refine heading into 2027.

“We’ve won six consecutive MX2 Championships, won 14 of the 16 MX2 races, eight of the 16 MX3 races and four MX1 races. The CRF250RWE and CRF450RWE have been incredibly competitive all season. Now it’s on me to continue refining every part of our program. Winning championships doesn’t happen by standing still, and we know we have another level to reach.”

Honda’s MX2 legacy continued with Alex Larwood, who delivered his first Australian Championship after five years of perseverance. Following two major shoulder reconstructions, partial paralysis in his shoulder and arm and a broken ankle, Larwood finally achieved the breakthrough he had worked so hard for.

Winning nine of the sixteen races, Larwood entered the final round under immense pressure. A heavy crash in the opening moto damaged his bike, yet he regrouped to claim valuable points before taking second in the final race, giving him more than enough to secure the championship.

“I definitely didn’t make it easy on myself. The crash in race one was massive and every thought imaginable went through my head. Thankfully I wasn’t badly injured and the team did an incredible job getting my bike back together. I knew what I needed to do in the second race, rode smart and brought it home. My family and I have experienced the highest highs and some incredibly difficult lows, so to finally win this championship means everything.”

Larwood now heads to the United States to contest the final three rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

His teammate Kayd Kingsford finished runner-up in the MX2 Championship during his rookie season in the professional ranks after claiming last year’s MX3 title. Kingsford finished the season in dominant fashion with two race victories at the final round.

“It’s hard to miss the championship by less than ten points because you naturally think about the ‘what ifs’. Alex earned it and rode really well. I feel like I’ve improved every round this season and the team has been fantastic. I’ll take a short break and then turn my attention to Supercross.”

Fellow Honda rider Ryder Kingsford overcame an early-season shoulder injury to finish fifth overall.

“It wasn’t the season I’d planned for. I spent most of the year trying to catch up after the injury while adapting to a new team and bike. I’m looking forward to resetting and preparing for Supercross.”

In MX1, reigning champion Kyle Webster endured one of the toughest seasons of his career. A shoulder dislocation which will require surgery limited the two-time Australian Champion throughout the year, with Webster still managing third overall despite constant pain.

“It’s been one of the toughest years I’ve had, both physically and mentally. The speed was there and the bike was incredible, but I never had the strength I needed after the shoulder injuries. We had a championship-winning package; unfortunately, a series of setbacks prevented us from showing what we were truly capable of.”

Nathan Crawford joined Honda midway through the season and immediately made an impact, collecting race victories, three overall podiums and fourth in the championship despite joining after Round 6.

“I’ve wanted to be part of Honda for a long time. I sacrificed a lot to earn this opportunity and I’m grateful to everyone who believed in me. This season proved I made the right decision. For a long time I questioned myself, but as soon as I rode the Honda I knew this was where I wanted to be. I’m excited for what we can achieve next year.”

Former MX2 Champion Wilson Todd was unable to complete the season after stepping away to focus on his physical and mental wellbeing, finishing 11th overall.

Konsky praised Todd’s courage.

“Our riders push themselves through physical and mental pain because that’s the nature of elite sport. Wilson had the courage to recognise what he needed to do, and we completely respect that. His integrity and honesty should be admired.”

Honda also enjoyed another strong season in MX3. Heath Fisher claimed his first overall round victory at Gilman and consistently challenged for podiums during his rookie campaign, while Seth Morrow dominated the final three rounds to finish third in the championship, confirming his status as one of Australia’s brightest young prospects.

Four-time Australian Women’s Champion Charli Cannon endured a winless domestic season for the first time in years, finishing runner-up in three rounds while continuing to develop internationally after claiming her maiden AMA victory in the United States.

“This season has been challenging, but it’s also taught me a lot. We know exactly where we need to improve. We have a plan, and while it won’t happen overnight, I’m committed to the process and excited about what’s ahead.”

While attention now turns to the Australian Supercross Championship, preparation for 2027 is already well underway.

Honda has confirmed its two MX1 riders will return next season, while continuing to evaluate the possibility of expanding to a three-rider 450 program.
